– So you’ll need a paddle – OK – but where’s the canoe?

It was the week before our trip to Israel to film the 2008 WCGIP gathering of indigenous peoples, when I received a phone call from an old friend of ours Phil Jones, he was calling from Canmore Canada, our plan was to travel to the gathering together, however due to a family bereavement he had to cancel the trip, as we concluded our conversation he puzzlingly encouraged me to take a canoe paddle to the gathering ….I compliantly replied “O”ok!

Canoe paddle? –his request didn’t register at all - not until the following day, when I was merrilly house painting, up and down the paint brush went - my mind quicl;y drifting into a zoned out state - when suddenly I was reminded of a song I`d penned a few years earlier entitled “Fishing in the Deep” - the imagery was of a bunch of guys carrying paddles - running excitedly across the Galilean shoreline -then diving into the awaiting boats to go fishing in the deep with skipper Jesus! This sudden gust of inspiration had me dropping my paint brush and Googling the net - in search of “The Idiots guide to making canoe paddles - that was it - we too were off on a brand new journey - into the unknown - Fishing in the Deep!

Cheers Phil for hearing what was humming on the wire!
I’d also like to thank Sheila Clay for coming out of pyography retirement to burn the inscription and Debbie Boer for preparing the special anointing oil – a real team effort Ta!
