The seed …………and the story lives on

How can I help? The Valerie Tree Planting Project

What is Valerie’s Orchard? This project is an exciting development on from the film, representing a living memorial to our friend who did not die.

Our vision is to plant a garden of olive trees which will blossom in the Negev Desert; just like the prophet Isaiah spoke about;
"See I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert (Negev) and streams in the wasteland." Isaiah 43

We started planting the olive trees back in February 2007 at Tu B’Shvat (which is the formal time of the 'new year' for planting trees).

Doors opened to make this vision happen with Israeli gardeners Ronen and Oren Shalom in The Negev Desert on a 40 acre plot of land near to Kadesh-Barnea, this is where the historical planting of hundreds of olive trees will take place, symbolising the lasting seed of her legacy.

The motive behind this planting is to honour our friend Valerie who 60 years ago was shown such dishonour as a human being during the Holocaust, today she stands with many individuals who proudly represent a re-born Nation – A testament to the ongoing generations, who are depicted as new shoots in Valerie’s art.

My personal desire as a Gentile is, in this humble way, to bring some healing to The Wounded Olive Tree of Israel, with a series of plantings that will bare much good fruit in the seasons to come.
This small action stands to agree with G-d, i.e. to “Bless Israel and not curse it”.

Want to be part of it?
To bless and not curse – then sow a seed of love – that will make a difference by purchasing one of these special Olive Trees to purchase a sapling, feed, water and tend general preservation-cost £13 (GBP) or $25 (USD). Why not consider visiting and planting your own tree at Valerie’s Orchard

2008 is the year of the Shmita

Shmita is a Hebrew word meaning Sabbath rest for the Land. Under Jewish law, Shmita is the seven-yearly ban on agricultural activity in Israel, letting the land lie fallow for 12 months. (Rest-what a great idea).

However virtual trees can still be ordered on line and will be planted once work picks up again in the autumn (early October 2008), after Rosh Hashanah the start of the Jewish New Year. Reminds me of the first day man walked on the earth – it was a day off?

The scriptures say that Adam was created on a Friday probably a Friday afternoon? Just in time for the Sabbath rest? The Creator knows some good stuff eh! Refreshingly relevant me thinks in light of our advanced 24/7 culture.
